concho valley paradise

Concho Valley Paradise

1. When I was small, I rode my bike in the mud.
Nothing but trouble, a little dirty, I always was.
I drove my mama crazy and my father half insane,
As a West Texas kid who hadn’t ever seen the rain.

When I was small my mother took my clothes,
To save them from the mud puddle, daddy called a road.
Cause if your going fast enough, it’ll pass you from behind.
So in my cartoon hero underwear I let my Schwinn unwind

* And the sunsets were symphonies conducted by the evening breeze
When climbing mesquite trees always watch for thorns.
It’s a Concho valley paradise, a bargain at twice the price,
That muddy water sure feels nice in a childhood thunderstorm.

2. I got bigger and drove my truck in the mud.
Dad got it used at Jim Bass Ford and first sight it was love.
My friends thought I was crazy some back-roads hurricane,
Just a West Texas kid who hadn’t ever seen the rain.

I got bigger and my father took the keys,
To teach me a lesson and prevent muddy tragedy.
He said son just because your built Ford tough don’t mean you can’t get stuck,
So I watched the rain from our garage and cleaned that dirty truck.

3. Now I am older and my kids are in the mud,
I try and understand, I try and show my love.
Smiling sure comes easy as they laugh themselves insane,
They’re just West Texas kids who hadn’t ever seen the rain.

Now I am older and my wife must look away,
As I strip down to my underwear and go back to that place.
Where a thunder cloud on a sunny day can heal a troubled soul,
One big kid, one big puddle on life’s muddy road.
